Adhesion Testing / Adhesives Testing


Adhesion is the bond strength measurement of a coating to a substrate. When an adhesive is bonded to an item or surface numerous physical, mechanical and chemical forces come into play, which may have an effect on each other. These need to be tested before a product can be used.

Typical test measurements include
²  180 degree and 90 degree peel tests
²  Lap shear tests for evaluating the shear strength of adhesives for bonding two surfaces together and welds such as metal and plastic welds
²  Tensile strength
²  Seal strength, peel strength and adhesion strength tests to determine adhesion strength of flexible plastic packaging

This Instrument is professionally applicable to the determination of tensile, shearing, and pulling properties of various adhesives, which conforms to various ASTM standards ASTM D1002, ASTM D2095, ASTM D3165, and ASTM D2339.


This instrument is used to test the initial adhesion property of adhesive tapes. It is based on falling ball method and the initial adhesion property of adhesive taps could be obtained by observing adhesive effect occurred immediately after rolling ball and adhesive specimen come into contact.

u  CZY-6S Adhesive tapes retention adhesive tester



This Instrument is used to measure the retention adhesion properties of adhesive tapes in a relative long time. The test plate with adhesive specimen is vertically hanged on the stand and its bottom is attached with a standard weight. The retention adhesive property could be obtained by measuring the displacement of specimen on vertical test plate or the time to failure at such load.

The Instrument has 6 work stations, which highly improved the efficiency of the testing. It is controlled by computer and timing is automatic finished.

Quality Concerns of Doypacks


Packaging is “a silent seller” of the goods. There are more and more producers who think about the design of their product for the customer to choose it among other products in supermarket.
A bag with a stable bottom – doy-pack – is a beneficial positioning of product and it is very easy-to-use for the customer.

Doypacks also go by the name of stand-up pouches. they obtain more and more customers and manufacturers favorite, because they are convenient:
  • reclosable by adding a zipper or spout
  • easy to be opened, by adding a tear notch or perforation
  • display your products and maximize shelf space
  • shape it in any way without high additional costs
  • Because of small weight and capacity the costs for transportation and storing are less.
A bag with a stable bottom consists of two-, three- or four- layered materials whose thickness may be different (from 70 to 120 mm).
Inner layer is made of polyethylene and it provides the resistance to the content of the package and it is also thermo-welding layer. Outer layer is made of polypropylene ( BOPP) or lavsan( PET), it is very convenient for deep or flexographic printing. Aluminum foil is used for the medium layer .This layer is high-barrier, it does not pass light and moisture inside what is very important for organic coffee, spices, sauces, juices, etc.


Based on the widely usages and constituent of Doypacks, quality control of doypacks should be included but not limited to:
  • Thickness of each layer plastic film and laminated films
  • Heat Seal property of inner layer material films
  • Barrier property of medium layer for Moisture, oxygen and other gases
  • Ink Abrasion Property on printing layer
  • Peel strength among each layer
  • Lock and open force of spout if any
  • Package integrity
  • Coefficient of Friction for piling up and filling

Bond Strength Tester (ASTM D882)

Bond strength generally involves determining the stress required to rupture a bond formed by an adhesive between two metal blocks. Often the test involves the measurement of the shear and flexural bond strength of a bonding agent or a comparison of bonding agents under varying environmental conditions.

Bond strength testing can be carried out on a range of Labthink Instruments materials testing machines.
